Wrapped Love Stories: privacy and terms of use
The privacy policy covers what the app collects, who else receives it and how to delete it. The terms of use cover what is free, what is paid and what you may do with the app.

Wrapped Love Stories reads a WhatsApp chat you export and tells the story of that conversation: how much you talk, when, which words and emoji are yours, and a video to share. The chat is read on your phone and is never sent to me or to any server. What does leave the phone is usage statistics, crash reports and, if you buy Premium, what Google Play needs to process the payment. This page says what each of those is.
I, Tiago Danin, am the developer and the controller of this data under the LGPD (Lei 13.709/2018). If you are in the EU, the GDPR gives you the same rights and I answer them the same way. Write to TiagoDanin@outlook.com about any of it.
What you give the app
The chat you export
You export a chat in WhatsApp ("Export chat", "Without media") and share it to the app, or pick the file in Android's file picker. The app needs no storage permission for either. If the export is a zip, the app takes only the chat's text out of it; photos, audio and videos inside are never opened.
The app copies the file into its own temporary storage, reads it in the background and deletes the copy as soon as the reading ends, whether it succeeded or not. The reading happens entirely on your phone. None of the chat is uploaded to me, to Google or to anyone else.
What is kept from it
After reading, the app keeps only what the story is told from, in its own private storage on your phone:
- counts and distributions: messages per person, per day, month, hour and weekday, streaks, the longest gap between messages, sessions, replies, media and link counts, and the dates when the conversation reached round numbers of messages (the 1,000th, the 10,000th and so on);
- the 30 most used words and the 20 most used emoji, and how many times certain phrases appear ("I love you", "miss you", "good morning", "sorry" and laughs), with the date of the first one and who sent it;
- the names of the people in the chat as they appear in the export, and the names you choose for the story;
- the first messages of the conversation, which one scene shows as notifications on a lock screen: up to four messages sent in the first three minutes, the first 160 characters of each, with who sent it and when;
- how you arranged the story: the order of the scenes, the ones you switched off, the ones shown as just a number, and the lock screen's background;
- if you choose "Your photo" as that background, a copy of the photo you pick. The app opens Android's picker for this, so it sees only the one photo you choose and needs no gallery permission.
The words, the first messages and the photo can include personal things. They never leave the phone unless you share a scene or the video yourself. You can delete one Wrapped from its menu on the home screen, or all of them in About, "Delete all Wrappeds". Uninstalling the app also removes everything.
Other people's messages
A chat has two people. The app processes the other person's messages too, on your phone only, to count them. Import only conversations you are entitled to look at, and think of the other person before you share a scene or the video, since it shows facts about both of you.
Videos and images you make
The video and the scene images are drawn on your phone. A video stays in the app's temporary storage until you share it or tap "Save to gallery", which puts it in a "Wrapped Love Stories" album in your gallery. When you share, it goes through Android's share sheet to the app you choose, and from there that app's own privacy policy applies.
What the app collects on its own
Usage statistics
Google Analytics for Firebase records events such as opening the app, which screen is open, starting an import (from a share or the picker), whether it succeeded or why it failed, the size of the chat in broad ranges (for example "10k to 50k messages", "1 to 3 years"), how long the reading took, how many scenes a story has, finishing a story, sharing a scene (which kind of scene, never its content), making, cancelling, sharing or saving a video, seeing the Premium screen and whether a purchase went through. No event carries a name, a word, a message or anything else from your chat. The app does not create an account or send a user ID, so these events are tied to an app installation, not to a person. Analytics also sees your device model, operating system, app version and approximate location.
The app has no ads and does not read the device's advertising ID: it is removed from the app and its collection is turned off.
Crash reports
Firebase Crashlytics receives a report when the app crashes or an error is caught: the error, the device model, the Android version and the state of the app at that moment. Reports never include the chat's content.
Premium purchase
Premium is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. Google Play handles the payment: I never see your card or your payment details. The app asks Google Play whether your Google account has bought Premium, when you buy, when you tap "Restore purchase" and quietly when the app starts, so a purchase made on another phone is picked up. Google shares with me, through the Play Console, the order information it gives every developer, such as the order number, date, country and amount.
What stays on your phone
Your saved Wrappeds as described above, and whether you have Premium. Uninstalling the app removes all of it. Videos you saved to the gallery stay there until you delete them.
Who else receives it
The app has no server of its own. What it sends goes to Google:
- Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics receive the statistics and crash reports.
- Google Play processes the Premium payment and tells the app whether you own Premium.
Their terms: Firebase privacy, How Google uses information from apps that use its services, Google Play terms and Google Privacy Policy.
I do not sell your data or hand it to a data broker. I would only disclose it if a Brazilian court or authority legally required it, and the chat itself is not something I could hand over: I never receive it.
Why it is used
The chat is read only to build the story you asked for, at your request. Purchase data is used to deliver the Premium you paid for, which is the performance of that contract. The statistics and crash reports are used to find bugs and to see which parts of the app work, on the basis of my legitimate interest in keeping the app working.
Where it is stored
Your chat and your Wrappeds stay on your phone. Google stores the statistics, crash reports and purchase data on its servers, which may be outside Brazil, including in the United States, and applies the safeguards described in its data processing terms to those transfers.
How long it is kept
The exported file is deleted as soon as it has been read. Saved Wrappeds stay on your phone until you delete them or uninstall the app. Analytics statistics and crash reports are kept for the retention period configured in Firebase, then Google deletes them. Google Play keeps its data under Google's own policies.
Your rights
Because there is no account and the chat never reaches me, nothing on my side links data to you by name. You can still ask me what exists, ask for deletion, or object to processing at TiagoDanin@outlook.com, and I answer within 15 days, the period the LGPD sets. Deleting your Wrappeds in the app and uninstalling it remove what is on your phone. You may also complain to the ANPD, Brazil's data protection authority.
Security
Your chat is processed in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read, and the temporary copy is deleted after reading. Traffic to Google's services is encrypted. No system is completely secure, but your chat is never on a server to begin with.
Children
Wrapped Love Stories is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child's data reached the app, write to me.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. For a change that affects what is collected or who receives it, the app shows a notice before the change takes effect.

Terms of use
Last updated
These terms apply to anyone who installs or uses Wrapped Love Stories. By using the app you accept them. If you do not, uninstall it; nothing else is needed.
Who provides the app
Tiago Danin, a private individual in Brazil, who develops and publishes Wrapped Love Stories on Google Play. "I" and "me" below mean him. "You" means the person using the app.
What Wrapped Love Stories is
An app that reads a WhatsApp chat between two people that you export, and tells the story of that conversation in full-screen scenes: how long you have talked, how much, when, which words and emoji are yours, and other patterns. It then makes a vertical video of the story that you can save and share. The chat is read on your phone.
Price
Wrapped Love Stories is free to download and use. Without Premium, a story shows its first scenes and then says how many more there are, and the video is shorter, in 720p, with a small "Wrapped Love Stories" mark.
Premium is a one-time purchase sold through Google Play, with the price shown by Google Play before you pay. It shows every scene of every story, now and later, and makes the full video in 1080p without the mark. It is tied to the Google account that bought it: on another phone with the same account, "Restore purchase" in the app turns it back on. Payment, receipts and refunds follow Google Play's terms and refund policy, without prejudice to your rights under the Código de Defesa do Consumidor.
Your chat
Your chat stays yours. I do not receive it and claim no rights over it, or over the videos and images the app makes from it.
Import only chats you are entitled to look at. A chat also contains the other person's messages, and the scenes and the video show facts about both of you: think of them before you share, and do not share what they would not want shared. You answer for what you import and share.
The numbers
Every number and sentence in a story is computed automatically from the exported text, never written by hand. WhatsApp exports differ between phones, languages and versions, so a count can be off in some cases, for example when messages were deleted, when media were left out of the export, or when the export itself is incomplete. The story is for fun and for memories, not a record to rely on.
Not affiliated
Wrapped Love Stories is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to WhatsApp, Meta, Spotify or any other company. "WhatsApp" and other names belong to their owners and are mentioned only to describe what the app reads. Do not present a story or a video as something made or endorsed by them.
What you agree not to do
Do not use the app to expose, harass or blackmail anyone, to mislead people, or to create content that infringes someone else's rights or breaks the law. Do not copy, resell or redistribute the app or get around its purchase or security.
What you may do with it
I give you a personal, free, non-exclusive and revocable licence to use Wrapped Love Stories on your devices. The name, the icon, the scene designs and the code remain mine.
Availability
I work on Wrapped Love Stories in my own time. Scenes and features may change, be removed or stop working, and the app may be discontinued. Videos you already saved stay in your gallery.
Liability
Wrapped Love Stories is provided as it is. To the extent Brazilian law allows, I am not liable for how you or others use the stories and videos you create, for what a chat reveals once shared, for losses caused by the phone, the network or Google's services, or for content you share on other platforms. Nothing here removes a right that the law gives you and that a contract cannot take away, such as those in the Código de Defesa do Consumidor.
Privacy
What the app collects is described in the privacy policy on this same page.
Changes
I may update these terms. The date at the top changes when I do, and a change that affects you is announced in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Wrapped Love Stories after that means you accept the new version.
Law
Brazilian law governs these terms. Anything an email cannot settle goes to the courts of Belém, Pará, without prejudice to your right as a consumer to sue where you live.
