Love Wrapped

Your chat, told back as a love story.

Love Wrapped reads a WhatsApp chat export between two people and tells the story back as a Wrapped: the first messages, the first "I love you", the longest run of days in a row, the hours and words that are yours. The chat is read on the phone and never uploaded, only the numbers of the story are kept, and there is no account to create. The story can be renamed and reordered, then turned into a 9:16 video with an original soundtrack. No ads, and one optional lifetime Premium through Google Play unlocks every scene and the full 1080p video without the watermark.

What it does

Simple premise. Real value.

🔒

Read on the phone

The chat is parsed on the device and the app deletes its copy when the reading ends. Only the story's numbers are saved, never the messages.

🎬

One discovery per screen

Scenes are picked from what the chat really holds, from the first messages shown as lock screen notifications to milestones, laughs and emoji.

💞

About the couple

It never ranks who texts more, who replies faster or who says sorry, and it never brings back a bad moment.

✏️

Make it yours

Change the names, reorder or hide scenes. Premium adds a color per scene and a photo of the two of you behind the first messages.

📱

A video to share

A 9:16 MP4 with an original soundtrack, rendered on the phone, or a single scene as an image. The free video is 720p with a watermark.

Behind the Build

The story behind it

The Problem

A recap of a relationship needs the whole WhatsApp conversation, which is about the most private file on a phone. The reading had to happen on the device, and the export looks different on Android and iPhone and in each language.

What I Built

A Flutter app with a hand-written, pure-Dart parser that streams the export in an isolate and lets only aggregates out; a 200,000-message chat read in about five seconds in my tests. A scene engine scores each possible scene against those numbers, and one CustomPainter draws the viewer and every video frame, which a Kotlin MediaCodec encoder turns into H.264 with an AAC soundtrack.

What I Learned

The rule that shaped the engine is to never invent data: a scene that cannot back its sentence with the chat's numbers is dropped. Drawing the preview and the video with the same painter also means the story you watch is the video you share.

Love Wrapped

Your chat, told back as a love story.

Turns a WhatsApp chat between two people into a Wrapped of the relationship, one scene per screen, and a vertical video, all on the phone.
