CAM Covers: privacy and terms of use

CAM Covers turns a photo into a "now playing" music player screen that you save and share. The photo never leaves your phone unless you share it yourself. What does leave is usage statistics, crash reports and what Google's ad network needs to show ads. This page says what each of those is.

I, Tiago Danin, am the developer and the controller of this data under the LGPD (Lei 13.709/2018). If you are in the EU, the GDPR gives you the same rights and I answer them the same way. Write to TiagoDanin@outlook.com about any of it.

What you give the app

Your photo

You pick a photo from the gallery or take one with the camera. Both go through Android's own picker and camera, so the app needs no camera or storage permission. The photo is cropped and drawn into the template on the phone. The finished image is written to the app's own storage as cam-covers.png and saved to a "CAM Covers" album in your gallery. It is never uploaded to me or to any server.

The text on the cover

The song title, artist and extra line you type stay inside the image. They are not sent anywhere.

When you share, the image goes through Android's share sheet to the app you choose, such as Instagram or WhatsApp. From there, that app's own privacy policy applies.

What the app collects on its own

Usage statistics

Google Analytics for Firebase records events such as opening the app, choosing a style, opening the editor, reaching the share screen, picking where to share, opening the About screen and tapping Premium. The app does not create an account or send a user ID, so these events are tied to an app installation, not to a name. Analytics also sees your device model, operating system, app version and approximate location, and it may read the device's advertising ID.

Style counter

When you tap a style, the app adds one to that style's counter in Cloud Firestore. The counter is a single number per style. It says nothing about who tapped it.

Crash reports

Firebase Crashlytics receives a report when the app crashes: the error, the device model, the Android version and the state of the app at that moment.

Ads

CAM Covers shows a banner on the home screen and a full-screen ad after you save an image. Google AdMob serves them. To pick and measure ads, AdMob uses the advertising ID, your IP address, the device model and how you interact with the ads, and it may show ads based on your interests. You can reset or delete the advertising ID in Android settings, under Privacy, Ads (on some phones, Google, Ads). Deleting it stops personalised ads on the whole device.

What stays on your phone

The finished images, and two flags the app keeps about ads and Premium. Uninstalling the app removes the flags. Images you saved to the gallery stay there until you delete them.

Who else receives it

The app has no server of its own. What it sends goes to Google:

• Google AdMob receives what it needs to show ads, as described above.
• Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics receive the statistics and crash reports.
• Cloud Firestore serves the list of styles and holds the style counters.
• Firebase Remote Config lets me switch features such as ads on or off without an update. It receives the app version and device information needed to answer.

The About screen loads my GitHub avatar from GitHub and links to my GitHub and Instagram. The feedback option opens your email app addressed to TiagoDanin@outlook.com; nothing is sent until you press send.

I do not sell your data or hand it to a data broker. I would only disclose it if a Brazilian court or authority legally required it.

Why it is used

The ads pay for the app, and they rely on my legitimate interest and on the choices you make in Android's ad settings. The statistics, counters and crash reports are used to find bugs and to see which styles people use, on the basis of my legitimate interest in keeping the app working.

Where it is stored

Google stores this data on its servers, which may be outside Brazil, including in the United States. Google applies the safeguards described in its data processing terms to those transfers.

How long it is kept

Analytics statistics and crash reports are kept for the retention period configured in Firebase, then Google deletes them. AdMob keeps its data under Google's own policy. Style counters are kept for as long as the style exists.

Your rights

Because there is no account, nothing on my side links data to you by name. You can still ask me what exists, ask for deletion, or object to processing at TiagoDanin@outlook.com, and I answer within 15 days, the period the LGPD sets. Resetting the advertising ID and uninstalling the app cut the link between new data and your device. You may also complain to the ANPD, Brazil's data protection authority.

Security

Traffic to Google's services is encrypted. No system is completely secure, but your photos are never on a server to begin with.

Children

CAM Covers is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child's data reached the app, write to me.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. For a change that affects what is collected or who receives it, the app shows a notice before the change takes effect.

These terms apply to anyone who installs or uses CAM Covers. By using the app you accept them. If you do not, uninstall it; nothing else is needed.

Who provides the app

Tiago Danin, a private individual in Brazil, who develops and publishes CAM Covers on Google Play. "I" and "me" below mean him. "You" means the person using the app.

What CAM Covers is

An editor that puts your photo into a template shaped like a music player's "now playing" screen, with a song title, an artist and an extra line that you type. You save the result to your gallery and share it wherever you want.

Price

CAM Covers is free to download and use, and it shows ads: a banner on the home screen and a full-screen ad after you save an image.

The Premium button in the app is not on sale yet. When it is, it will be sold through Google Play, with the price shown before you pay, and these terms will be updated to explain what it includes before it goes on sale.

Your photos and your text

Your photos and what you write stay yours. I do not receive them and claim no rights over them.

You need the right to use every image you put in the app. If a photo shows other people, or was taken by someone else, make sure you are allowed to use and publish it. You answer for what you create and share.

The templates

The templates are inspired by the look of music players. CAM Covers is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Spotify or any other player or streaming service. Their names and trademarks belong to their owners. The images the app makes are for personal, fun use: do not present them as a real screenshot of a service, as an official release, or as an endorsement by an artist.

The extra line starts as "CAM Covers". You can change or clear it.

What you agree not to do

Do not use the app to impersonate someone, to mislead people, to harass anyone, or to create content that infringes someone else's rights or breaks the law. Do not copy, resell or redistribute the app or get around its ads or security.

What you may do with it

I give you a personal, free, non-exclusive and revocable licence to use CAM Covers on your devices. The name, the icon, the templates and the design remain mine, apart from the third-party trademarks mentioned above.

Availability

I work on CAM Covers in my own time. Styles and features may change, be removed or stop working, and the app may be discontinued. Images you already saved stay in your gallery.

Liability

CAM Covers is provided as it is. To the extent Brazilian law allows, I am not liable for how you or others use the images you create, for losses caused by the phone, the network or Google's services, or for content you share on other platforms. Nothing here removes a right that the law gives you and that a contract cannot take away, such as those in the Código de Defesa do Consumidor.

Privacy

What the app collects is described in the privacy policy on this same page.

Changes

I may update these terms. The date at the top changes when I do, and a change that affects you is announced in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use CAM Covers after that means you accept the new version.

Law

Brazilian law governs these terms. Anything an email cannot settle goes to the courts of Belém, Pará, without prejudice to your right as a consumer to sue where you live.
